About

My name is Amala and I am the owner of Heart of Glass Cornwall. I have always admired traditional crafts so I jumped at the chance to attend a taster workshop in stained glass. From the moment I started i fell completely in love with this medium and it has commandeered my life ever since.

I specialise in the copper foiling technique which allows for more intricate and detailed designs, I also create the more traditional leaded light windows, my favourite techniques to incorporate are hand engraving, kiln fired painting and enamelling.

My studio is based on an eco park that is nestled on the north coast of Cornwall overlooking Porthtowan’s valley. Inspired by the epic landscapes and beautiful wildlife I try to replicate this in my work. Where possible i use natural or recycled materials from the fused ghost fern bowls to the ethically sourced butterfly pendants.

I thoroughly enjoy hosting workshops and passing on what knowledge I have to others, having previously worked in the mental health sector for over 10 years I am passionate about creating an all inclusive and supportive environment to promote maintaining a healthy well-being through being creative.

In 2021 I won the Ashton Hill award from the Worshipful company of glaziers and painters of glass, my prize was to spend 10 weeks training in the UK’s most prestigious architectural and conservation studios. Holy Well Glass in Somerset, Barley studio in York and a masterclass in glass painting with renowned glass artist Derek Hunt
